“Talisman” was inspired by Shakespeare, Steinbeck and Serusier. It deals with love found and love lost through the turning of the seasons. Like Richard III in his Shakespearian soliloquy, we feel our human frailty despite our victories in life (evidenced even more during Covid times). Like Ethan Hawley, the protagonist in Steinbeck’s novel “Winter of My Discontent”, when questioning personal ethics and moral decay, we are saved by the mystical “Talisman”, which gives us a meaning to live. The beauty of a life worth living is reflected by inspiration from Paul Sérusier’s painting “Talisman” (1888), an impressionist landscape painting from the Nabi school hanging in the Musée D’Orsay in Paris.

Talisman 03:42
Talisman (S. Douglas / S. Kilpatrick) Welcome to the winter of my discontent. I’d like to think I lived my life well-spent. And as the seasons turn I watch the fires burn It started and it ended with a kiss. It happened in the springwhen the devil pulled the strings. The petals were like bloodstains on the ground. Bring me your talisman... She left me in the autumn when I hit rock bottom. Dead leaves were soaking up the sound. It started and it ended with a kiss. Won’t you help me, won’t you help me? Save me from myself... Welcome to the summer of our love again I picked a crimson flower for your hair Like it ‘69 all the planets fell in line It started and it ended with a rose It started and it ended, it started and it ended, It started and it ended with a kiss...

The Resignators Melbourne, Australia

The Resignators, from Victoria, Australia, are a seven headed brash and boisterous ska punk monster, featuring blistering guitar, thumping bass, melodious keyboards, driving drums and a military like horn section, ready to attack, putting a bomb under the relatively easy, feel-good vibes that are often spun in the genre, with their punk-inflected ska. ... more
